We’re always on the lookout for players. And we particularly are looking for tenor and bass drummers. Our motto is “play good music and have a laugh” which means it’s as much about the banter as perfecting our skills on the chanter and drum pads.

If you're interested, come along to our practice, 7:30pm Monday at the Hockey Club, Perry Lakes, off Oceanic Drive, Floreat. For more info, call Gary on 0422 444 894 or email secretary@perthhighland.com

10 REASONS TO JOIN PHPB

1. Great gigs: We perform throughout the year at performances such as country shows, Ronald McDonald Ball, the Christmas Pageant, Jakarta St Andrews Ball (in Indonesia), Perth community events, weddings and concerts (we've even performed with ochestras at the Perth Concert Hall).

2. Overseas trips: We travel to Jakarta Indonesia regularly to play for the Java St Andrews Society events. We have also resently traveled to Singapore and New Zealand for band contests.

3. Top of Grade 4A: To maintain a high musical standard, we compete regularly. We have dominated our grade for more than a decade, and have a goal to move up into Grade 3. Competing is optional for players, and we welcome anyone who just wants to play with us without committing to contests.

4. Strong leadership: We are very lucky to have Stuart Robertson take over as Pipe Major for 2022. Stuart is from Glasgow in Scotland and has played at Grade 1 level with Shotts & Dykehead Pipe Band, before moving to Australia to join the WA Police Pipe Band (where he was Pipe Sergeant). Our Pipe Sergeant is David Stulpner, who was Pipe Major of Scotch College. David is a renowned soloist and has won many contests in Australia, plus international online piping competitions. Our Drum Sergeant is David Johnston, who has three decades of experience and solo medals to his name.

5. Great tunes: We keep our repertoire fresh, with a mix of contemporary and traditional tunes. We are very lucky to have renowned composers in the band who write original music and create new arrangements of trad tunes. Stuart Robertson is a published composer and David Stulpner has been prolific in composing many of our tunes. Charles Barblett (also an ex Scotch College Pipe Major) studies musical composition and arranges expert harmonies for the band. Tenor drummer, Sue McNaughtan, has been contributing greatly to new beats and flourishes.

6. Central practice venue: We practice every Monday night at the Hockey Club at Perry Lakes, off Oceanic Drive, Floreat. It is just a few minutes from the Perth central business district, with easy access to the Freeway and West Coast Highway.

7. No membership fees: It is believed that Perth Highland is the only registered PBWA band that does not charge its members an annual fee. We are funded by our music performances throughout the year, and have never charged membership fees.

8. Uniforms and equipment supplied: We provide our members with uniforms and supply drums, bagpipe chanters, practice chanters, pipe bags and bag covers, and reeds.

9. All ages: We have a great crew, ranging from 17 year olds to seventy-somethings. The diversity of our members makes it a very interesting organisation. All we welcome new members.

10. We have a laugh: Having fun is deep in the culture of Perth Highland. To see how much we enjoy performing all over Western Australia and further afield, check out our
